Welcome to Fossil Free Lakehead!

We are a student organization at Lakehead University established in 2013. Our primary objective is to advocate for the divestment of Lakehead’s assets from the fossil fuel industry in the interest of our global climate.

Our website is currently under construction. Please check back soon for updates and resources as the 2020-2021 school year approaches!

Recent FFL action:

In this unprecedented time of COVID-19 when we would normally host rallies and events on campus, we wanted to provide an opportunity for folks to engage with the fossil-free movement from home. Our messages were shared with the Lakehead Board of Governors at their June 5th 2020 meeting to remind them why we do this.

Become a part of the Divest Canada Coalition!

The Divest Canada Coalition is a collective of students from over 30 universities, colleges and high schools committed to fossil fuel divestment. Fossil Free Lakehead has been an active member of this coalition since January 2020 when it was initiated with a nation-wide call, and it is now officially formalized!

We have written an open letter calling on boards of trustees and administrators at all educational institutions across Canada to: 1) Divest from the past – by committing to full divestment from fossil fuels 2) Reject false solutions – by rejecting greenwashing tactics that have been put forth by administrators and corporations alike (such as ESG and Low Carbon investing) and, 3) Invest in the future – by relocating capital to sustainable community projects.

Please go to http://www.divestcanada.ca/openletter/ to read and sign the letter.
